Today, I bring to you 3 incredibly easy tips on how to start the new year right.

Using one or a combination of these tips will help you anchor your energy and give a wonderful opportunity to connect with your spiritual practice!

1. Do a Tarot or Oracle Reading

Ask the universe (or whichever deity you work with) to give you guidance or direct message regarding this year's overarching theme.

Take a deep breath, close your eyes and pull one card from your favorite Tarot or oracle deck.

Depending on if you read reversals or not, you have your theme! Take out your journal or planner and write down:

• The date

• The name of the deck you used

• The card you pulled (note if it was reversed if you read reversals)

• Your first impressions (was it in your opinion a “good” card? Or a “bad” one?)

• The interpretation of the card based on the deck’s creator

• Your thoughts on what it means for you.

Throughout the year, I recommend you check back in with your new year reading. See if you notice any patterns.

2. Purifying Ritual

Start the new year right by energetically purifying your home, office, or creative spaces. This will allow you to clear the air and remove / release any lingering negative energy for the previous year. Doing this ritual signals to the universe that you serious in starting fresh and and that you’re ready for the next step.

Here are the two techniques I recommend:

Technique #1: Spray

In a clean spray bottle add water (bottled, distilled, or tap if that’s all you have on hand), some drops of Florida Water, and a few pinches of salt (table, sea, or Kosher). As you shake up the bottle, imagine sparkling light swirling around the bottle. Say a blessing like “I bless this water with positive, cleansing energy. May it purify my spaces and clear it of any negative energy.”

Technique #2: Smoke

Whether you burn sweet grass, sage, or palo santo (or all three) make sure you take fire safety precautions like using a fire-proof bowl or glass. As you clear the air in your spaces, make sure to hit corners and areas where you tend to pile items.

Once you’ve decided on which technique you want to utilize, you’ll want to ground this action by physically cleaning (removing dirt and dust) too. Do the best you can, and at the very least straighten up your surfaces.
