In fact, it can even help you identify who you should be marketing to and where to direct your efforts for the best results!
Tarot for business owners and entrepreneurs.
But, how do we do this?
But first, let's go through some basics in order to help you better understand how Tarot works.
This is mostly beginner material, but it can help you get started and find out what is lacking in your business, what are your strong points and help you start a plan, so you can start being a business rockstar.
Sounds about right?
So, what is Tarot exactly?
A Tarot deck consists of 78 cards divided into two main sections. The Major Arcana, which are a little more than a fourth part of a complete deck, 22 cards, and the Minor Arcana, a section of 56 cards.
Okay, what’s the difference between the Major and Minor Arcana?
All the cards have importance when used in a reading or spread. The difference is the effect or influence they have on your situation or decision.
Think of it this way:
The Major Arcana are like the really BIG financial decisions in your life. Things like getting married, going back to school, buying a house or starting a family. The investment is high. They require a lot of internal decision making since they will significantly affect your life in a big way.
The Major Arcana are the most popular part of a Tarot deck, with cards such as The High Priestess, The Hanged Man or The Tower. They tend to get the most “air play” by how dramatic they seem to be.
The Major Arcana are also considered to be related to the fifth element or ether. For this reason, it deals with sublimation, “fate” or a higher purpose.
The Minor Arcana on the other hand, are like smaller financial decisions whose effect add up in the long run. These are things like your grocery budget, clothing expenses or Netflix or cellular phone subscriptions. Alone, these investments really don’t seem that significant but added up they pack a heavy punch.
The Minor Arcana are divided into 4 suits of 14 cards each, 10 pip (numbered) cards that go from Ace to 10, and 4 Court Cards called Page, Knight, Queen and King.
The Suits
The suit of Cups is connected to water, therefore to intuition, emotions, vocation, feelings, spirituality or a calling.
The suit of Wands is connected to fire and it deals with action, passion, willpower, energy put to work for a purpose.
The suit of Pentacles is connected to earth and related to the material realm, money, stability, growth and realization.
The suit of Swords is connected to air and it speaks about the realm of ideas, communication, inspiration, logic and rationality.
The Court Cards
The Court Cards, an entity of their own, work as stages of energy:
The Pages and The Queens being passive energy, while Knights and Kings are active energy.
For this reason, Pages represent raw potential, Knights stand for action, Queens for nourishment and Kings for completion.
Now that we have the basics let's discover how to put this to work for your business!
Here are some sample questions that you may find useful, although they will probably trigger a dozen more, so do not be shy and practice your shuffling because we are about to go to some depths here!
“What is my business plan lacking?”
“How can I reach my ideal clients?”
“What is my essence as an entrepreneur?”
You can start by pulling one to three cards for each of these questions. Or go wild and ask your own!
Let's imagine that you asked “What is my business plan lacking?” and you got the Three of Wands.
As I have already explained, Wands are linked to the energy of fire, so the first message you are getting here is that you need to do more, simply do more.
Sometimes, we get lost in a spiral of ideas, plans, procrastination and “laters” and we forget to simply act, right?
On a deeper perspective, this Three of Wands could be telling you that it is time to think out of the box, consider alternatives, if what you have done so far is not working, do not expect different results from repeating actions!
Let's take one more step. Now that you know what your business is lacking and how to use tarot to improve your business, the next natural step is to know what can you do about it, isn't it?
Pull a new card to find out, start a conversation with your Tarot deck and with yourself.
Make notes, at the end of your reading identify the suits that have come up more frequently.
What is on the table is about as important as what is not. Is there a missing suit? Perhaps you want to analyze how to bring more of that energy into your business!
My top tips for finding your first Tarot deck
If you’re just starting out and need help finding your first Tarot deck, here’s my top suggestions:
1) Get a deck that appeals to you, but if possible, that is not too “cluttered”. I mean, particularly when you are beginning, it is important to be able to distinguish the cards. Pick a deck that looks nice to you, but that is not covered in symbology or has a very elaborate background. It will most likely distract you or make you feel overwhelmed.
2) If possible, find out if the suits are named after the suits or have a more creative name. If you are a beginner you do not need any extra confusion! Some decks have suits named after the seasons or something else that has to do with the theme of the deck. The simpler the better, you will have time to expand your collection later.
3) Don't be precious with your deck. For this reason, do not spend a gazillion bucks! Your first deck is meant to be used fearlessly. Do not get the pretty thing you are scared to ruin. Some of the most spiritually powerful decks I’ve come across are worn and well-loved!
Caring for your Tarot deck
Okay, ma'am, I got a deck. Now what?
Again, congratulations on finding your first deck! What happens now is mostly up to you! So first, a deck is not a lego, it already works, you do not need to set it up. You can take it out of the box and start going wild.
However, over time your card deck may accumulate energetic debris or feel like it’s lost its charge. Follow my good Tarot “housekeeping” tips below to keep your deck in top shape.
Cleansing
Like any divination / spiritual tool, it’s important to cleanse your deck of energetic gunk. If you are more on the practical side of the spectrum, just tap the deck three times with your knuckles while you visualize all energies leaving the deck and you are good to go. If you prefer a more elaborate ritual, you can pass your deck through a smoke with purifying herbs (like sage, mugwort, or pine).
Charging
To recharge the energy or “vitality” of your deck, I recommend putting your deck out under the Full Moon. The moon is associated with divination and the Full Moon is magical. So, super boost your deck by bathing it in moonlight. On a practical note: moonlight is prefered over sunlight because sunlight could alter the color of your deck.
(re) Connecting with your deck
Spend as much time as you want with your deck. Shuffle it, look at it, carry it around, sleep with it, stick it around the walls! Doing this will help maintain your connection with it.
Improving your business + closing thoughts
It's not all about the answers, it is also about the questions.
In order to make the most out of your Tarot practice, you should incorporate it into your usual business maintenance routine.
At the end of each week, you may want to ask some questions such as “What have I accomplished this week?” or “What mistakes have I made?” or you can even prepare for the next week and be ahead of the events by asking “What challenges am I likely to face in my business next week?” and “How can I avoid or minimize the impact?”
As you can see, the possibilities are endless, and you may end up making it a part of your daily practice.
In closing, the Tarot is a powerful tool at everyone's reach that can help you make a difference and bring improvement to your business whatever is that you do.
